Mondo's first book - released tomorrow!

This is exciting stuff indeed! Here we have a precious and rare item that any Mondo collector will long to have in their collection. At only 105 copies, you will need a fast finger to snag one - best of luck!

Mondo writes:

'If you attended the gallery show a few weeks ago, you might’ve seen or even bought our new book. We are all very excited with how they came out. I briefly talk about this in the intro of the book, but I was at a friend’s house earlier this year and noticed a book he had by Jay Ryan. It was full of posters…. actual pieces of the screenprinted posters. I thought about the giant stack of returned posters we’ve gotten over the years and figured this would be a great way to get those out as we were moving to the new space and didn’t want to transport them.

So, we began to go through the giant stack and pick out which ones we wanted in and in what order they should go. We found a local binder and had him cut them down to size and over several weeks we hand put these books together. It was an intricate process and below you can see some of the pics of the book getting put together. (check those pics HERE)

I went to WonderCon in Anaheim, CA a few weeks ago and got some sketches done in the book and felt like sharing them. Lots of folks that got these at the gallery show got the artists in attendance to draw in theirs as well, so this works as a great sketchbook!

These books are limited to just 105 copies made TOTAL and are bound in 100% leather. They will be put up for sale on the site tomorrow and will cost $200. Follow us on Twitter for the on sale announcement.'

The making of a Mondo movie poster

See how this sketch of Ming The Merciless evolves into this beautiful painting. Mondo are very kindly showing us the steps that go into the making of one of their v.popular movie posters. Created by the talented Jason Edmiston - this is a must to see! Click the link HERE to witness the process from start to finish. One word of warning tho, it'll make you feel like an extremely shitty artist in comparison.

Mondo write: 'If you’ve been to our gallery on 4115 Guadalupe St., then you’ve surely seen the AMAZING painting of Ming The Merciless by Jason Edmiston. If you haven’t been yet, it’s not an easy thing to miss. Displayed in a golden frame, this piece’s vivid colors demand that it be seen. Jason is an amazing artist and to show just how talented he is, we present to you these process photos of Jason creating his stunning work.

We put up the remaining original pieces on the site in our new GALLERY section today and if you’re interested in purchasing it, you can find it HERE.'

Mondo are set to release the official Drive soundtrack on vinyl!

Exciting news! The following text is taken straight from the Mondo blog:

'Wow. So, looks like we haven’t updated the blog in a bit, but I couldn’t think of a better way to break the non posting streak than with this press release:

Mondo is very proud to announce the release of the Drive soundtrack on vinyl for the first time in America. Regarded as one of the best soundtracks of 2011, the album is propelled by Cliff Martinez’s original score, plus songs by Kavinsky, Desire, Chromatics, and more. Mondo will be utilizing the talents of Tyler Stout for cover and package design, and will also be releasing a limited edition screenprinted poster to celebrate the occasion.
The 2xLP will be released in the US in June of 2012. Follow @Mondonews on Twitter for more information.
Yep. You read that correctly. We’re releasing the DRIVE soundtrack with a double vinyl album and having Tyler Stout do the packaging. We are beyond excited for this. June cannot come soon enough.'

New 'John Carter' film poster by JC Richard

JC Richard has just released this new image over on his blog. He writes:

'Worked with Mondo and Disney for this promo poster for the upcoming IMAX 3D release 'JOHN CARTER'.
'A lot of people have been waiting a very long time for this film to get to the big screen-after all, it's been 100 years since Edgar Rice Burroughs began writing about John Carter's Mars adventures, and those stories laid the groundwork for many scifi and fantasy properties of the modern age (Star Wars, Avatar to name two biggies). Based on the designs I've seen so far, it looks to be quite an impressive and unique vision of Burrough's world.'

'Completely different approach on this one- meant to mimic those large-scale, fully blown out scifi art promo posters you'd get with your happy meal circa '79 (just missing the folds of course!).

This particular Mars landscape is based heavily off the more "grounded" concept art/designs of the film, as opposed to more fantastical interpretations by Frazetta and other fine artists who have largely defined the look of the planet 'Barsoom' over the last century.
