Animated gif illustration by Dain Fagerholm

'Illustrator Dain Fagerholm has developed a portfolio comprised of hand drawn three dimensional GIFs which he has named 'stereographic drawings'.

'Stereographic images have existed for hundreds of years as a 3D illustrative technique tricking the eye with two parallel images captured with a minor difference in perspective shown at a close range to simulate depth, mirroring the way the eyes work when looking at anything. Fagerholm's approach is quite similar to this antiquated approach ~ in place of hyper-realistic drawings or photos of landscapes or people, the artist instead creates the illusion around his hand drawn mystical creatures, bringing their world to something like life.'

'In order to create stereographs he sketches the monsters and their surreal world then converts his illustrations into animated GIFs, with subtle movement of various parts of the picture, enabling his two dimensional drawings to become three dimensional moving images.'
